Description
This is a 1958 GERMANY GOLD 2.5 DUCAT GRAUL MAGNUS MEDAL EGYPT QUEEN NEFERTITI .98 FINE .274AGW GEM PR.
An example from a really fresh and neat group of these gold and silver “ducats”. This group came from a old collection, and these were purchased directly from a German Bank in January of 1965. The collection even came with the original bank receipt for the Aureus Magnus from Werner Graul
These scarce medals were designed by known German medalist Werner Graul in the 1940s-1960s. He called his series of ducat denominated medals “Aureus Magnus”. Struck in both gold and silver, these were made with a number of themes and in a variety of denominations and weights. Graul’s goal was to create a Gold and Silver backed world currency, and he founded the Institute for International Gold Currency. He submitted a thesis to the finance ministers in several German/Austrian states. Although his idea was ultimately not accepted by the countries, these Ducats were distributed through several banks during the period, as well as sold to the public.
