Description
This is a 1926-S $20 ST GAUDENS GOLD DOUBLE EAGLE-PCGS MS-64, TOUGH WITH GREAT LUSTER! #38685093. The 1926-S is the most available of all of the later-date mintmarked $20 Saints. But common, it is not! At one time the 1926-S was considered the third rarest collectible Saint-Gaudens double eagle after the 1924-S and 1926-D. It was held in much greater regard than the 1920-S or 1921 and was even considered to be more rare than the 1927-D. However, in the 1950s and 1960s several small hoards of Mint State pieces were discovered in Europe, reducing the issue to its current “Very Scarce” (but not rare) status. The present example is lustrous and attractive with no discolorations, spots or dirt. It is very choice by all counts, and would please even a particular collector. Our commitment is to provide you with quality coins and collectibles at the best possible prices. This piece is no exception. Please note, the coin and collectibles markets do fluctuate, and prices occasionally will change. In this rare circumstance, we will contact you first to verify your order.
