Description
This is a 1895-S $1 MORGAN DOLLAR – PCGS MS-64, FROSTY & PRETTY! #25315295. The 1895-S is a scarce, low-mintage date Morgan that is popular for several reasons: For date collectors, the 1895-S represents the most affordable of the three 1895 options (P,O or S) in grades of 60 or above. Secondly, the fact that many of mint state 1895-S dollars came from the Lavere Redfield hoard further adds to its allure. Most mint state 1895-S dollars have good luster but seldom are fully struck. Surface abrasions can also be a concern. The luster can vary from cartwheel to prooflike, with deep mirror prooflikes rare. Die polish in the fields is very common on this date, and is the norm rather than the exception. The present specimen has good luster in the fields with mildly frosted devices. Marks are held in check, and consistent with the assigned grade. There is also some light gold toning evident throughout, but concentrated more around the peripheries. Although not specifically attributed to the Redfield hoard, this 1895-S has all of the hallmarks of the examples that were. In summation, this is an attractive, and wholly original example of this elusive Morgan Dollar date. Our commitment is to provide you with quality coins and collectibles at the best possible prices.
