Description
This is a 1894 MORGAN DOLLAR – NGC MS-60 PL, PROOFLIKE, MIRRORED FIELDS, POP 1 OF 5, RARE!. This piece has a ton going for it. For starters, it’s already one of the key-date Morgan Dollars with an original reported mintage of just 110,000 pieces. The piece is also scarce in Mint State Condition, regularly selling for in excess of $4,000 in Uncirculated grades. However, the 1894 Philadelphia Morgan Dollar is downright rare in Prooflike designation, as they almost never have mirrored surfaces. In fact, this is the only coin graded MS-60 PL, with only 3 other Mint State Prooflikes at NGC. PCGS has only graded 3 total Prooflike examples in all grades! And in Deep Mirror Prooflike, the coin virtually doesn’t exist, with approximate 3-4 total known, and corresponding values well into the 5 figures (the last 64 DMPL sold for over $65,000)
The present coin is primarily white and flashy, with just a splash of gold at the peripheries. The strike is bold and virtually full, with strong reverse breast feathers. The cheek is very clean and with only mild imperfections given the grade of just 60. The fields are strongly reflective and deeply mirrored with tremendous vibrancy. Only very light lines in the fully Prooflike surfaces limit the grade, and the coin has exceptional eye appeal for a 60. Here is a fairly inexpensive way to put back a truly rare coin, without paying a huge premium over a regular Mint State 1894 Morgan. Don’t miss this one!
