Description
This is a 1863 PATTERN 50c, J-341, COPPER, SEATED LIBERTY HALF DOLLAR, NGC PR-64 BN-PRETTY! ALTHOUGH IMMERSED IN THE WAR OF THE STATES, THE UNITED STATES MINT WAS NONETHELESS BUSY WITH PROPOSED CHANGES IN DESIGNS AND DENOMINATIONS OF CIRCULATING COINAGE FOR COMMERCE. NICKEL WAS BEGINNING TO EMERGE IN CIRCULATING COINS, AND THE ADDITION OF A MOTTO WAS ALSO A WAR-TIME FIRST. J-341 BOASTS A MOTTO WHICH WOULDN’T ACTUALLY BE FOUND ON A CIRCULATING COIN, THE TWO CENT PIECE, UNTIL THE NEXT YEAR (1864). J-341 WAS ORIGINALLY CATALOGED AS AN R-6, BUT IS NOW THOUGHT TO BE A HIGH R-5. THE PRESENT EXAMPLE SHOWS DEEP PASTEL TONING UNDER THE BRONZE SURFACES. MULTICOLORS ARE SOMEWHAT MORE PRONOUNCED ON THE REVERSE. Our commitment is to provide you with quality coins and collectibles at the best possible prices. This piece is no exception. Please note, the coin and collectibles markets do fluctuate, and prices occasionally will change. In this rare circumstance, we will contact you first to verify your order.
