Description
This is a 1836-DATED J-MT-21 AE 28MM FIRST STEAM COINAGE TOKEN, MAR 23 – NGC MS-63 BN. These were struck to commemorative the creations of Steam Coinage Press, under new Mint Engraver Christian Gobrecht. Originally scheduled to be released on February 22, on George Washington’s Birthday, they were largely delayed (outside of a few trial pieces) until March 23. Well-struck with smooth surfaces, the quality of these was a sign of how the modern steam press was destined to improved our coinage in America. Please note, this is one of the originals from March 23, 1836, and is distinguishable from later restrikes in other metals by its copper composition and color, as well as the very small rim cud/crack at 6-7 o’clock on the obverse. A neat piece! Our commitment is to provide you with quality coins and collectibles at the best possible prices. This piece is no exception. Please note, the coin and collectibles markets do fluctuate, and prices occasionally will change. In this rare circumstance, we will contact you first to verify your order.
