Description
This is a 1796 DRAPED BUST LARGE CENT REVERSE OF 1794 S-102 PCGS GENUINE CLEANED-XF DETAIL. A really scarce to rare R-4 variety that looks much better than the assigned PCGS description. 1796 was the first Draped Bust Large Cent, and the 1794 Reverse is a scarce Redbook variety for the first of the 1796 Draped Bust Cents. Often found in low grade or with severe issues, this example is a pleasant exception. The surfaces are a pleasant medium brown in color with no major marks or distractions. The hair and overall detail are very strong and defined, and the coin arguably faces up more like an AU than an XF. However the coin has been lightly cleaned at some point in the past and likely has had the surfaces lightly burnished or massaged to give it a pleasant appearance. Considering, the Reverse of 1796 is a 5 figure coin in straight graded XF and potentially a 20-30k coin in AU, this piece provides outstanding value at a fraction of the price. Potentially Condition Census for early copper collectors! Our commitment is to provide you with quality coins and collectibles at the best possible prices. This piece is no exception. Please note, the coin and collectibles markets do fluctuate, and prices occasionally will change. In this rare circumstance, we will contact you first to verify your order.
