Description
This is a 1793 CHAIN CENT S-2, AMERICA PCGS XF-40 CAC, STUNNING CHOCOLATE BROWN & AMAZING! A legendary numismatic rarity and a “must have” for any advanced collection. 1793 represents the first “standard” production year of the fledgling U.S. Mint, and the 1793 Chain Cent represents its first standard issue coinage. Struck briefly from February 27 to March 12, 1793, a total of just 36,103 coins were minted. Most circulated heavily within the 15 states of the day, and combined with the substandard copper they were produced with, led to the majority of the coins being of very poor quality. It is estimated that only 625 of the “America” variety Chain Cents survive in all grades, and this is one of the nicest we have every encountered, regardless of grade designation. Conservatively graded XF-40, this piece has amazingly lovely medium grey surfaces with none of the planchet problems usually encountered. The wear is very minimal, with the surfaces retaining glossy original luster in some areas. CAC is amazingly difficult on early copper, so the fact that is passed at CAC attests to its quality. CPG Price Guide suggests $72,000 for this coin, and this one seems worth every penny (no pun intended). Opportunity knocks! Our commitment is to provide you with quality coins and collectibles at the best possible prices. This piece is no exception. Please note, the coin and collectibles markets do fluctuate, and prices occasionally will change. In this rare circumstance, we will contact you first to verify your order.
