The Reeded Edge Needs Your Coins and Bullion
Would you drive your car onto a stranger's lot and sell it for his on-the-spot offer? Of course you wouldn't. Would it make any more sense to drop your unwanted coins and bullion in a pre-paid envelope and ship it to some unknown company just because they have a slick commercial on TV? When you think about it, the answer is pretty obvious. Chances are pretty good that these companies are underpaying you, and sometimes by a LOT. This is exactly why they can afford their expensive advertising time. Who are these people and where were they before the surging metals market? We're betting that you didn't know these companies five years ago, and it's our guess that you probably won't know them five years from now.
The Reeded Edge needs your rare coins, collectibles, sets, accumulations and bullion, and we will ALWAYS pay you more! We are aggressively seeking any and all fresh deals. Perhaps you inherited a collection or put coins away as a child. Please call us. You may be pleasantly surprised just how much your gold, silver, old coins and/or collectibles could be worth. We guarantee that our offer will always exceed the TV advertisers, without exception. To prove it, simply add 10% to their high quote, and provided that the gold and/or silver spot price has not gone down, you may simply ship your merchandise to us for immediate payment. With millions of dollars available, no deal is too large. Discover what collectors, investors and dealers have known for over 30 years. When it's time to sell you simply MUST call The Reeded Edge. Robbie Jenkins is just waiting to talk to you, either in the office @ 301-724-0400 or on his cell @ 301-876-1332.
The Baltimore Coin Show Exceeded ALL Expectations; Collectors Turn Out in Record Numbers!
We had hoped for a good Baltimore Coin Show, and this one ended up better than our wildest expectations. From the opening bell at Dealer Day throughout Sunday afternoon, we were buying and selling coins non-stop. At the time of this writing, we are still in the process of entering sales invoices, as well as beginning to list some of the hundreds of new Baltimore coin purchases. To say that the pace of this show was frenzied is probably an understatement. Hats off to our friends at Whitman Publishing for doing a first rate job of promoting this venue. Although we haven't seen the final figures just yet, we are guessing that this show probably set new attendance records. We have been setting up at this venue for almost 30 years, and this was probably the largest Baltimore crowd that we can ever remember. Furthermore, people came to buy. If you had the right coin at the right price, it wasn't surviving this show. Needless to say, it was most encouraging to see this type of activity, especially in this less-than-predictable market climate. Perhaps, this is the tide of the future and the coin market has finally found even footing. The next several shows will bear this out one way or the other. For the time being, we'll remain cautiously optimistic.
Below, you will find some of our new purchases highlights from The Baltimore Coin and Collectible Exposition. Again, it will probably take several more days to get all of numerous new items up on the store. But, rest assured, we'll be working non-stop until every last one of them is up. We hope that you enjoy perusing these new coins and collectibles, and as always, a quick phone call to reserve any item of interest is greatly encouraged.

The Reeded Edge Returns from an Active Hagerstown Show-Looking forward to Baltimore
We no sooner have returned from the Interstate Coin Show, as we head back out this week to downtown Baltimore for the Whitman Coin and Collectible Exposition.
The Interstate show is a well established club show based in Hagerstown, MD. Held twice a year at The Venice Hotel Ballroom on Dual Highway, this show has a both a regular following of dealers and attendees. This last weekend was no exception as we saw many of our usual friends and customers. Business was brisk as the ballroom packed for both days. We did not notice quite as much demand for bullion as we have the past several shows. However, affordable collector coins were quite a different story. Although the Hagerstown show is a smaller venue, perhaps this shift may signify a growing trend diversifying back into numismatic items. Not to insinuate that this collector contingent has ever disappeared, but there definitely has been an emphasis placed on bullion-related material of late. Baltimore should give us a much better indication of the present focus of this market, as well as the direction that it is headed.
As mentioned earlier, The Whitman Coin and Collectible Exposition in Baltimore is rapidly approaching. Beginning this Thursday March 4th, and concluding Sunday, March 7th, this really has become the mother of all coin shows. With over 500 tables and 1500 dealers in attendance, Baltimore is surpassed in size by only the FUN show in Orlando and the Summer ANA World's Fair of Money. Whether you're buying coins, selling coins, buying gold, selling gold, or just trying to get your hand on the pulse of the rare coin market, Baltimore will be the place to be. As usual, The Reeded Edge will be located at table #307. We will have an exciting and varied group of rare coins and collectibles with us, including many of our new purchases. Rob and Robbie will both be in attendance buying and selling coins. If Baltimore can be included in your weekend plans, we would love to have you stop by and say hello.
Several New Collections Showcased; The Reeded Edge Heads to Hagerstown
This has been another busy week at The Reeded Edge office. We have purchased several new collections, which included a nice group of collector coins as well as a run of Proof and Mint Sets. We have also listed a few new items out of the S.T. Little Collection. We have to admit that we have been somewhat remiss about getting more of this neat collection up on our store. Unfortunately, between shows, mail order and the continued buzz in the office, we have had little or no time to address these coins. As some of you may recall, the S.T. Little Collection featured a group of very pretty, and wholly original 20th century coins. These uncertified collector coins are also amazingly affordable. Furthermore, any coin pedigreed to this collection will be photographed, regardless of price. .Just search "S.T. Little" to get a complete listing of what's currently available. And if you like what you see, stay tuned because there are plenty more of these coins that we'll be listing on the store over the next several months.
This weekend, February 27-28, The Reeded Edge will be setting up at the Interstate Coin Show located at the Grand Venice Hotel, 431 Dual Highway, Hagerstown, MD 21742. Show hours are 10:00-6:00 PM Saturday and 10:00-3:00 PM Sunday. We will have a wonderful variety of coins and collectibles with us, including many of the new purchases that you see featured throughout the store. Of course, we'll be actively buying coins, buying gold and buying silver. So, bring what you have for sale, and stop by our tables and say hello. As we have said before, this is a great collector-oriented show. We hope that you'll be able to fit Hagerstown into your weekend schedule. Show info is available by calling the promoters at 301-739-5414.
Virginia Beach in the Winter Proves to Be a Very Warm Place!
Like so much of the east coast, we in the mid-Atlantic have had it with the winter weather. Fortunately, the Tidewater area provided us both welcome relief from the cold and snow, as well as a very good coin show. The Virginia Beach Coin Show was well attended and active, giving us continued reason for optimism. With about 50 tables, Virginia Beach is a smaller regional show, and only a microcosm of the rare coin market. It nonetheless provided an overall snapshot of the larger picture. Yes, we did hear about taxes looming on the horizon, and sensed a little reluctance on the high ticket coins. But, mainstream collector material proved to be a VERY easy sell. Unfortunately, the same could not be said for buying coins. It seemed that both collectors and dealers that had worthwhile material, consistently wanted just a little too much for their items. Consequently, we sold inventory but did little in the way of replacing it. Actually, this phenomena, although frustrating from our standpoint, can be viewed in a positive light. If collector's continue to be hesitant to sell at the current levels, dealers will have no choice but to inch up their buy prices. Perhaps this is an indicator that we're at the threshold of a more bullish coin market? Time will definitely tell.
This coming weekend, we will be heading to Hagerstown for the Interstate Coin Show. This is always a great show with a strong collector turnout. Our last trip to Hagerstown earned us a feature story in their local paper, The Hagerstown Herald-Mail (See the related story on the bottom of this page). As usual, we will have a great variety of United States coins and collectibles, both on display and for sale. Whether you are buying coins, selling coins. buying gold and/or selling gold, we think that Hagerstown will be the place to be. We would hope that you can include this venue on your schedule, as we sure would love to see you there.
St. Louis "Great American Coin Fair" Delivers as Expected
The Great American Coin Fair was the success that we have come to expect from this strong collector show. Rob was busy for the duration of the event, from Thursday's Early Bird Day until he left the show late Saturday. Even some snow in St. Louis (like we need anymore of it this winter) didn't deter the crowds from turning out. Collector material from $100-$5,000 was selling very well. Early U.S Type coins, dated gold and Morgan Dollars were among the top sellers. Rare issues, as well as coins that are premium quality for the assigned grade, remain in strong demand. The rebound in precious metals' prices had both dealers and collectors once again looking for gold and silver bullion, as well as pre-1933 certified U.S. Gold Coins. As a side note, the generic gold market has solidified with numerous bidders aggressively trying to buy at the current levels. This is an important component to the overall coin market, and its impact was definitely felt in St. Louis. We are looking forward to attending this weekends Tidewater Coin Club Show in Virginia Beach, VA, and hoping for an equally active show.
We have some exciting new St. Louis purchases to share with you. Some of these pieces are very scarce and difficult to locate. To inquire about any items of interest, please call our office at (301) 724-0400 or Robbie Jenkins on his cell phone at (301) 876-1332.. Despite Weather and Dip in Gold Price, Long Beach Prospers!
The Long Beach Coin and Collectibles Exposition, despite some adversarial circumstances, was surprisingly good. The February Long Beach show has a bizarre, long standing distinction of coinciding with big drops in the metals markets, and this year was no exception. Although "The Curse of Long Beach" once again reared its ugly head, the demand for great coins was strong enough to overcome much of it's impact. We had a decent show both buying and selling coins, and found the overall mood of the show upbeat. Our plans were extended a bit when Mother Nature decided to dump 3 feet of snow on the mid-Atlantic. Airport closures resulted in Rob staying for the duration of the show instead of leaving Friday as originally anticipated. At the time of this writing, Winter weather continues to reek havoc on our area, creating some possible challenges for the upcoming 46th Annual Great America Coin Fair in St. Louis, MO. Barring any further snow-related delays, Rob will be set up at his usual table at this terrific collector show. Hopefully you will be able to stop by and say hello.
For the time being, we have a number of exciting new Long Beach Purchases to share with you. Some of these pieces are very scarce and difficult to locate. Since these are all brand new, we suggest that you give Robbie a call on his cell phone at (301) 876-1332 to reserve any items of interest. Please also visit our New Purchases Page to view a complete list of all of our latest items. Thanks for looking!
Gold & Silver Take a Pause as Dollar Strengthens; What is the Long Term Prognosis?
As expected, gold and silver have taken a pause. This is due to several factors. Chinese banks were required to raise their reserve ratio by 50 basis points, igniting fears that the country could curb lending. This has contributed greatly to the renewed strength of the U.S. Dollar, as dollar based commodities become more expensive to buy in other currencies. Since metals are one of many dollar-based commodities, the two have been predictably moving in inverse. Also weighing on investors' risk appetite are worries over Ben Bernanke's nomination approval as well as President Obama's so-called war on banks. Whether the Chinese actually restrict lending has yet to be seen. With the language coming out of Washington over the last couple of days, we're feeling increasingly comfortable with Benanke's nomination. Obama's ambitious anti-banking position also has to pass the congressional litmus test, a Congress still reeling from the recent health care defeat. Consequently, what we're presently witnessing is probably just a temporary correction. We see nothing wrong with the long-term fundamentals for both gold and silver.
Let's take pause for a second to discuss the reasons for investing in metals in the first place. Inflation worries tied to a runaway debt, unprecedented government spending and shaky monetary policy were all responsible for investors seeking the security of metals. Have any of these situations really changed? Our economy is barely treading water with a double dip recession equally as probable as a recovery. Unemployment is still at a staggering 10%. Washington's economic policies, including the stimulus plan, have done little to loosen up lending with the financial institutions. Legislation coming out of Congress has been largely anti-business, and with many new taxes on the horizon (including a disastrous cap and trade resolution), there is little hope that things are going to get better anytime soon. So, why then would investors find any long-term comfort in the dollar?
We feel that the party with gold and silver is a LONG way from being over. However, we also understand the fragile nature of both the markets in general and investor's psyche. When a stock, commodity, currency or any other investment medium goes through a bull cycle, the market tends to overreact in both directions. The sell-off in metals over the last week is a perfect example of just such an overreaction.
The midterm elections in November could change the landscape of Washington politically and redefine our economic policy. But, as we have learned, elections are never a certainty. Further, November is still nine months away. Until that time, the fundamentals that drove most investors to the gold and silver haven in the first place really haven't changed much. The real operative question is, if not gold and silver, then where else should you put your money? For the time being, that's a tough one to answer!
Shipping Tracking Information is Now Available!
Its the new year and The Reeded Edge will be making some new features and enhancements available to you, our customers. Our webmaster, Ray Hunt has designed a new routine that will allow you to track any package shipped by FED-X, USPS Express Mail and USPS Registered Mail. When you receive your shipping notification, you will notice a click-able link that will open a page with all of your tracking information. Those of you who have My Reeded Edge accounts will also receive this information there.
Speaking of FED-X, you will notice that we are using them more and more often for parcels valued at $500.00 and over. FED-X provides efficient and secure shipping to many local and regional parts of the country less expensively than the U.S. Postal Service. For heavier Flat Rate packages, lower value packages and west coast shipments, the postal service is, more often than not, still less expensive to use.
With shipping rates constantly going up, we're really trying to look out for you and ship the most economical way possible, without of course, compromising your parcel's security. Your ideas and feedback in this area are always welcomed.

Name Your Price! From The Reeded Edge
Fall is upon us and the coin and collectibles markets are in the midst of a predictable pause. With the economy on our minds, or at the very least, constantly in the news, it seems that value has become the word of the day. Whether you’re a collector on a budget or an investor seeking opportunity, price seems to be the common denominator. Generally speaking, if the price is right, the item probably will sell. With that thought in mind, The Reeded Edge is introducing our new Name Your Price! program.
Name Your Price! allows you to make an offer for any item in inventory with a suggested retail price of at least $50.00. If you like saving money (and right now, who doesn’t?), this opportunity is definitely for you. Does the idea of purchasing a particular coin or collectible for what you believe it should be worth appeal to you? Then, put your best foot forward, because this is your chance to name your price on a wide variety of coins and collectibles.
In the last week, we sold an uncirculated 1901 Morgan Dollar and a RARE dated $20.00 gold coin, both at prices well below our suggested retails simply because each customer tendered an acceptable offer. Now it’s your turn!
By clicking HERE, you will open up our current coin and collectibles inventory list. Each and every listing is clickable and will take you to a detailed item description along with corresponding images. If you like what you see, return to the master list and click on the Name Your Price! button to the right of the item’s listing. This will open up a fill-in-the-blank email template where you can enter both your offer and your contact information. Once your offer is received in our office, we will make a decision within one business day, and in many instances, in just a few minutes. It really is that simple.
Every offer is seriously considered and weighed carefully. We evaluate many different factors including our original cost, what comparable items have recently sold for, frequency of the item’s appearance, rarity, desirability and overall quality. We then carefully consider your offer against each of these areas and try to make a fair decision.
We understand that opinions of value can vary. Consequently, not all offers will be accepted. But, if your offer is close, we’ll let you know, and in some instances, may come back with a counter-offer. Again, it doesn’t matter if you’re a collector, an investor or even a dealer buying for resale. We encourage you to take your shot and make an offer-You have absolutely nothing to lose!
Punchboard Prizes now Awarded Instantaneously!
Over the years, The Reeded Edge Punchboard has become one of our customer’s favorite perks. This is the webstore feature where you can win valuable prizes simply by placing a minimum order of $200.00. Previously, punchboard prizes were redeemed only on future orders. But now, that all has changed. All punchboard prizes (with the exception of discount coupons and gift certificates) will now be redeemed instantly without any wait or future orders required. Hopefully, this feature will make for a more pleasant Reeded Edge shopping experience.
